Surfers Healing

25th Anniversary Edition

 EAT ONE. GIVE ONE.

For 25 years, this community has shown up for us. This fall, we're paying it forward to the keiki.

From September 20 through October 27, every order of Nattochos or Pokechos at any of our three Oʻahu locations sends $1 to Surfers Healing. It's the same price as always. The donation comes from us, not from you.

Dine in or take out at Niu Valley, King Street or Pearl City. Order the plate, and a keiki gets closer to catching a wave.

THE DISH DOING THE WORK

Tom Jones | Gyotaku Co-Owner
Tom Jones
"We've been bringing bentos to the Surfers Healing beach day for years, and seeing those kids stand up on a board for the first time never gets old. You watch a keiki who was nervous on the sand come in grinning ear to ear, and their family on the beach cheering — that's what it's all about," shares Tom Jones, co-owner of Gyotaku. "For our 25th year, we wanted to do more than feed the volunteers. Nattochos is my favorite thing on our menu, so it felt right to let it do the work. Every plate our guests order helps get another kid out on the water, and I can't think of a better way to celebrate 25 years with this community."

Meet surfers healing

Since 1996, Surfers Healing has been giving kids on the autism spectrum a free day in the ocean. Volunteers paddle out with every child, and families spend the day together on the beach cheering them on. It's pure joy, one wave at a time.

Black tiger shrimp, lightly battered and tossed in fresh nama panko, fried to a crispy golden brown — the kind of crunch you can hear before you taste it.

Two ways to have it: Ebi Fry Teishoku (five pieces with rice, miso soup, salad, and our homemade remoulade) or Ebi Fry & Sashimi, the same five pieces alongside fresh ahi.

Here now through October 31, dine-in or takeout, at all three locations — Niu Valley, King Street, and Pearl City.

At our Pearl City location, co-owner Tom Jones chatted with James Donnelly from @makeawishhawaii Make-A-Wish Hawaii, tanabata wish papers in hand, to talk about something close to our hearts this season.

The tradition: write a wish on paper, hang it on the bamboo tree, and hope it comes true. This year, we’re taking that spirit further — for every Tanabata special you order, Gyotaku is donating $1 to Make-A-Wish Hawaii to help grant wishes for kids facing critical illness right here at home.

As James put it: it’s wishes on the tree, and wishes coming true in Hawaii. That’s a combination we’re proud to be part of, especially as we celebrate 25 years.

Order a Tanabata special, make a wish, and help make someone else’s come true. 🌟25 years. One incredible community. 🎉

All three Gyotaku locations are celebrating our 25th anniversary — and today we’re marking it at Pearl City with our Tanabata Star Festival wish tree, joined by the @cherryblossomfestivalhawaii Blossom Queen Aime and Princess Jacqueline.

⭐️Here’s how to celebrate with us: order any of our special Tanabata menu items now through August 31st, and we’ll donate $1 to the @makeawishhawaii for every one.

🎋Then make a wish, write it down, and hang it on our tree — because 25 years in, we still believe in wishes coming true.

This milestone kicks off our Year of Giving Back, and we’re so grateful for our long partnership with the Junior Japanese Chamber program and Cherry Blossom Festival.

Come celebrate with us. 🌸✨Today marks 25 years of Gyotaku. 🎉

Twenty-five years of sushi, shrimp tenpura, and a whole lot of ohana. We could not have made it this far without the people who’ve been in it with us since day one — our team, our guests, and the vendors who show up for us again and again.

Case in point: some of our vendors took the time to send us a happy anniversary message, and it genuinely made our day. Thank you for being part of this milestone with us — it means more than you know.

Here’s to 25 years, and to everyone who helped us get here. 🐟
